《A mother is strong, always preparing for the future》
Lillian looked around at the surrounding buildings; the towering structures could no longer meet the housing demands. Taiwan's economic miracle, one of the Four Asian Tigers, transformed the island into a highly urbanized society, boosting citizens' incomes and advancing technological modernization. Living in the city, driven by national policies, everyone prospered even if they weren't wealthy.
Embracing international trends, Lillian firmly believed that "land equals wealth." She knew she had to plan ahead to secure a stable future for her children. Insurance, funds, and functional housing were all part of her strategic planning.
Perhaps it was because of her child that Lillian often seemed luckier than others. The times created opportunities, and often, unexpected wealth came her way. It was as if this child brought fortune with them! Disability benefits and various foundations emerged as welfare policies in developing countries, reflecting human rights. In return, national tax revenues benefited from caring for the people.
Living in the right era is crucial.
If it had been the 1950s, a child with intellectual disabilities would have been abandoned. At one time, Taiwan was obsessed with the lottery "Dajia Le," where intellectually disabled children hidden in rural areas would give out winning numbers, exposing a dark side of society. Many such children were confined, as families could not afford to care for them. Poverty was the reason, and there were no social institutions to help.
Lillian's child was clearly well-cared for, from his first steps to his early speech attempts. The child's fair and clean face reflected Lillian's dedication.
However, the disability remained.
The child couldn't travel far, and his daily schedule was busier than others, with no room to miss any lessons. Since the child's birth, Lillian hadn't left Taipei City and County, not due to a lack of opportunities, but out of fear that the child would feel lost without her. Her heart ached because the child was not accepted by anyone, especially Smith, who saw the child as a mere obstacle and a cash machine.
Lillian's anxiety grew as her child matured, and she realized her mother was also aging. The passage of time brought both growth and decline. Lillian's mood became increasingly anxious and irritable, driven by a sense of insecurity and helplessness about the future.
Her child, now entering puberty, was physically healthy and curious about the world. His emotions and impulsive behavior made others view him as dangerous. Lillian's unwavering support was crucial for the child's life. Because of this child, Lillian's life had been filled with struggles and hardships.
《為母則強、未雨綢繆》
林立蓮環顧周遭，大樓林立，已滿足不了住屋需要。台灣的經濟奇蹟四小龍，從躍升城市化，帶動人民收入成長，科技現代化。畢竟身居在城市裡，隨著國家政策潮流，人人不富也旺。
接觸國際潮流，林立蓮深信「有土斯有財」。況且她必須遠程規劃，未來自己孩子安身立命之所。保險、基金、房屋的空間機能性，全在運籌帷幄中。
也許是孩子緣故，林立蓮的腳步總比別人幸運。時勢創造機會，很多時候莫名就帶來一筆財富。好像這個孩子自個兒會帶財一樣！如殘障補助及許多基金會成立其各項目，是發展國家的福利政策演化出人權。相對是國家稅收盈益，照顧人民。
應該說是：「生在對的時代很重要。」
如果是民國 40 至 50 年代 (1951-1961 年) 的智能不足孩子，是被放棄的。台灣一陣子興起賭「大家樂」，風靡一時。隱藏於鄉間智能不足兒童報明牌，社會黑暗面才曝光。多的是無奈下被關在一空間裡，人人幾乎養不起這般孩子。窮，是原因，也沒有社會機構。
孩子一步一腳印，從步履蹣跚到咿咿喔喔，都能看出這孩子被呵護倍至。白皙乾淨的臉龐，可看出林立蓮的用心。
可是缺陷改變不了事實。
孩子不能遠行，每天行事曆比別人忙，學習課程也不能漏掉。為了這孩子，林立蓮從孩子出生，就未曾跨出台北縣市。不是沒機會，是害怕孩子見不到自己而失落。糾結之心，其實是這孩子沒有一個人接納他。尤其是史密斯，更是視如障礙物提款機。
林立蓮忐忑不安情緒，隨孩子天天成長，也體認到自己的母親日日衰老。歲月婆娑，一長一衰。林立蓮心境患得患失，毛躁不安脾氣，好像隨之就來。壓力來自於沒有安全感，對未來很無助。
孩子也進入青春期，生理功能健在。對事物也會產生好奇碰觸。喜、怒、哀、樂、行於色，狂躁舉動看在別人眼裡，就是個危險人物。這孩子的一生多虧有林立蓮不離不棄！亦因這孩子，林立蓮的一生過得灰頭土臉。
