《Awakening from a dream, exchanging for an emptiness》
Time flies by, and Smith is about to retire in 2013. In his plans, there seems to be no place for Lillian and the child. After retirement, he will go to the United States to live with his parents, where a sister also resides. Ever since Lillian and Smith married, they immigrated to settle in the United States.

Lillian once spent a month in the United States to explore and try it out. However, in a foreign country where the language is unfamiliar and where reaching the city requires driving for over an hour, Lillian hesitated after careful consideration.
Feeling unappreciated, she returned to Taiwan. Whether life's beginnings are good or bad hinges on a single idea that sparks into a flame, either igniting or extinguishing.
Lillian has always affirmed that "her decision was right."
Lillian and Smith, one overcoming oneself, the other retaining oneself, are truly worlds apart.
"Clouds are heavy and the moon is bright." This home of Lillian's, bit by bit, from a blank canvas, painted a grey yet slightly colorful, woven into a picture. Though unrecognized, one can still see the artist's diligent effort.
Without hope and disheartened, Lillian admitted defeat. In the worst-case scenario, she waits for it to end.
The root of all evil lies in money. Though Smith didn't dedicate himself to this family, his income was drained by them. Depending solely on his retirement pension to live out his old age in America might leave him drifting like a jellyfish.
He knows Lillian manages finances well, owning exceptional property in Taipei. If they were to sell the house and split the proceeds to move to America and retire comfortably, this child, without any connections, devoid of expectations, would no longer hold any significance to him.
If the man and woman were to separate, dividing their assets clearly, dignity and face are all that remain, revealing only an ugly and greedy side. Each takes a stand, exchanging for a secret they'd rather not expose, laid out one by one.

歲月如梭，史密斯即將於民國 102 年 (2013 年) 退休。在他的計畫裡，似乎沒有林立蓮和那孩子的存在。退休後他將前往美國找自己父母親，跟一個姊姊都在那兒。早在林立蓮和史密斯結婚後，他們就移民至美國定居了。
史密斯也曾希望林立蓮和那孩子移居到美國，理由是因為先進國家對那種孩子，可以有很多福利。
林立蓮也曾去美國一個月了解試試看。可是在他鄉異地，語言又不通，離市區必須開車一小時以上才能到達。種種因素，林立蓮怯步，考量再三。
自己在不被看好之下，回到台灣。生命起點的好壞，都在一個想法迸出火花，燃起或熄滅。
林立蓮至始至終肯定「自己的決定是對的」。
林立蓮和史密斯這一對，一個克服自己，一個保留自己，完全是兩個世界。

他知道林立蓮理財有術，在台北市現有住屋，價值非凡。如果一人一半，賣其屋移居美國終老，綽綽有餘。這孩子沒有骨連肉的牽掛，還是個沒期待的產物，更讓他思毫沒有留戀的意義。
如果男女雙方要分開，其財產畫清之下，顏臉尊嚴在當下，只有醜陋的一面和崢獰貪婪。各站立場，換來是一場不想見光的祕密，一一攤開來。
