I dreamt that I was a waiter at a restaurant. Someone approached me, saying they had a communication app for restaurants. I checked the reviews, and they seemed good, so I let them install it on my phone.
Just then, a customer arrived, and I went to serve him. Unexpectedly, another customer called through that app, and it kept ringing non-stop.
The customer I was serving looked familiar, but I couldn't recall who he was. I greeted him, saying it had been a while, and asked where he had been. He said he suddenly felt like having something delicious today, so he came to order takeout.
As I was taking his order, the app on my phone kept ringing. He ordered stir-fried cabbage with pork and two different types of fish.
Once the food was ready, I brought it to the customer. He opened it and asked, "Is this cabbage?" I looked and realized it didn't quite match my idea of cabbage because it was greener.
The plastic container holding the dish was a bit flimsy, and I felt the soup might spill out. I took the dish back to the kitchen to ask the chef if it was really cabbage.
As I returned to the kitchen, worried about the soup spilling, the app on my phone rang again. I asked another waiter to answer the phone for me. He was resting but got up to help. Just then, the soup started spilling from the container. I warned him, "Don't step on the spilled soup!"
I brought the dish to the kitchen, confirmed it was cabbage, and then returned it to the customer, assuring him it was his order.
My phone kept ringing. Another customer had arrived, and the waiter who was supposed to answer my phone was now serving them. So my phone just kept ringing and ringing.
I thought, "Can I put this phone on silent?" Meanwhile, I saw the waiter had stepped in the soup, leaving greasy footprints everywhere. I was frantic, trying to clean up the mess.
The boss saw how busy I was and asked what was happening. I explained the situation, and he called the waiter over, scolding him for not being careful. "You were warned about the spilled soup, and now there are greasy footprints all over. We have to clean up again."
Finally, I sat down to rest a bit. A couple with a child came in. The man complained that he had called, but no one answered. I realized he was the one who had been calling and explained the reason. He said our food had caused his child to get sick and demanded we take responsibility.
While handling the complaint, I thought about how the app was a beta version with many issues. It needed a silent mode; otherwise, it kept interrupting my work.
The customer seemed unreasonable, insisting we were at fault. Before I could resolve the issue, I woke up.
Then I remembered that before this dream, I had another one. In the earlier dream, I was the customer of this restaurant.
I went to the same restaurant, thinking I hadn't been there for a long time. I used to go almost every day and take home a couple of dishes. But at some point, I just stopped going.
Ending 1: The Peaceful Resolution
Just as the customer starts to complain about their child getting sick, the restaurant manager steps in. The manager apologizes sincerely and offers a refund along with a complimentary meal for the inconvenience. The customer, feeling heard and valued, accepts the gesture. The ringing phone is finally put on silent by the manager, who shows you how to do it for the future. You feel a wave of relief and gratitude. As you finish your shift, you think about how sometimes, simple solutions can ease a lot of stress.
Ending 2: The Revelation
As the unreasonable customer is about to argue further, the app on your phone finally stops ringing. A notification pops up, revealing that the app has just been updated with a silent mode feature. You quickly activate it, and the peace that follows allows you to focus. The customer, seeing your genuine effort and the sudden calm, softens and agrees to a reasonable resolution. After your shift, you reflect on how technology and constant updates can both cause and solve problems in our lives.
Ending 3: The Empowered Stand
While dealing with the demanding customer, you decide to stand up for yourself and explain the situation clearly and assertively. You outline the challenges you’ve faced and suggest ways the restaurant could improve its operations. The customer, taken aback by your honesty and composure, listens and backs down. Your boss, who overhears the conversation, appreciates your initiative and offers to discuss your suggestions further. You leave the restaurant feeling empowered and hopeful for positive changes ahead.
Ending 4: The Unexpected Help
Just as the situation with the customer reaches its peak, a regular and very supportive customer steps in. They vouch for your excellent service and the restaurant’s quality, calming the angry customer. This intervention helps resolve the issue amicably. The regular customer then suggests some practical tips on handling multiple tasks and distractions, sharing their own experiences. You finish your shift with a newfound sense of community and support.
Ending 5: The Reflective Insight
After the altercation with the customer, you decide to take a break and step outside for some fresh air. You find a quiet spot and reflect on the dream you had before this one, where you were the customer. This reflection brings a deep insight into your current life – the need to balance serving others and taking care of yourself. When you return, you discuss your thoughts with your boss, who agrees to implement some changes to reduce staff stress. You feel a renewed sense of purpose and clarity.
Each of these endings offers a different perspective on resolving the challenges presented in the dream, emphasizing themes of communication, empowerment, support, and self-reflection.
