I dreamed that I was driving a car with my younger brothers, Ivan and Adolf, in the back. As I was driving, Ivan suddenly said, “Why aren’t you watching the road?” I was confused and replied, “What do you mean I’m not watching the road?” He pointed ahead and said, “There’s a traffic sign right there!”
I followed the direction he pointed, and because it was so dark, I could barely make it out—but sure enough, there seemed to be a fallen arrow-shaped sign hanging from a tree. I thought to myself, “There really is a traffic sign! But it’s fallen over—how was I supposed to see that?”
I got out of the car and walked over. It was a sign warning of road construction ahead. But the road was so dark I couldn’t see very far. I thought, “If there really is construction ahead, who would even notice the sign in this condition?”
I got back in the car and asked Ivan, “If you saw the sign, why didn’t you just say so directly? Making me stop the car to go check—what’s the point of that?”
I continued driving, and once my headlights lit up the road, I saw there were indeed workers fixing the road. I followed the sign and made a right turn onto a two-lane road. But because of the construction and poor visibility, I took the turn too wide and ended up briefly on the opposite lane. I quickly steered back into my lane. Luckily, there were workers directing traffic, and they had just blocked oncoming cars—so no accident happened.
One of the traffic directors gave me a strange look, like he couldn’t believe a car came from my direction. But I was determined to keep going. Soon I realized the road ahead was under major construction—completely dug up, with uneven steel bars sticking out of the ground.
At first, I wanted to keep going, but then I saw the road was completely broken off—as if they were building a bridge. I figured there was no way I could drive through that, so I thought I’d turn around instead. There was another road I could take to get home.
But the road surface was rough and covered with raised steel bars, and I worried it might puncture the tires. My brothers were screaming in the car. The road was so narrow that I had to inch forward and backward over and over to turn the car around. I noticed tire marks in the dirt, which meant others had made the same mistake and ended up here too. That gave me some comfort—I wasn’t the only one who took this path.
So I kept trying to turn the car around in that tiny space.
As I continued driving, the car felt really small. Ivan and Adolf were goofing around in the back. Ivan, who’s pretty big, kept leaning into my space. I told him to move over because I was sitting sideways in the driver’s seat, driving with one hand—my left hand on the steering wheel, and my right arm stretched behind me.
I said, “You’re squishing me—I can’t even turn my body forward.”
I kept telling Ivan to move and give me room so I could pull my right hand back to the front and grab the wheel properly. I was thinking, “I need both hands on the wheel when I get on the highway.” Finally, with great effort, I managed to pull my arm back around to the front.
I thought, “This car is so small! And yet the two of them are taking up so much space. I’m the one driving, and I barely have any room to move.”
