I dreamed I was in a small fishing village by the sea, somewhere that felt like Spain. A gang of bandits suddenly arrived in the village, going from house to house, capturing people and looting whatever they could find.
I had been at home, cooking dinner for my partner, when someone suddenly burst in. Because we had some art pieces at home, the bandits tried to steal them. My partner tried to protect the artworks and got into a fight with the intruders. I quickly ran out the back door, feeling like they were trying to catch me too.
I ran through the back alleyways. After shaking them off, I circled back to the front of the house to check what was happening. The bandits were completely brazen, barging into people’s homes, looting without restraint. They even stormed into a museum to steal artworks, and once they got them, they started tossing them around carelessly, claiming everything as theirs. I saw them bring in truckloads of more unruly people, and it made me feel scared.
Nearby, I noticed a church was holding a service. I saw some children by the roadside and hurried them into the church, thinking it would be safer inside with more people. But I wasn’t part of the church community and didn’t know their rituals, so I didn’t want to disrupt the service.
The children and I stood near the back, close to the entrance. But the rioters kept increasing in number. Eventually, some noticed a gap in the church’s rear windows and started throwing things inside. At first, I thought they were throwing bombs, but upon closer look, they seemed like glowing car headlights. Either way, they started hurling things into the church, and the chaos inside escalated.
The looters continued riding around in trucks—robbing, vandalizing, and even ransacking galleries and museums for more artwork. The destruction was shocking. Some villagers began taking down paintings themselves, hoping to carry them away and protect them. Large artworks that couldn’t be moved were ripped down and thrown around by the rioters.
Then, a violent storm rolled in. Some artworks were thrown by the sea, some even landed in the water. The villagers and I rushed into the ocean to rescue what we could, realizing that if we didn’t save them, this cultural heritage would be lost forever. We desperately tried to salvage the art.
The mob swept through the village, plundering and terrifying everyone. Eventually, they left, but the entire village was in ruins, with signs of destruction everywhere. On the roads, many large artifacts and artworks lay scattered on the ground. We picked them up, relieved that at least they hadn’t been taken away. They were damaged, but still could be repaired.
That was pretty much the dream.
