I had a dream where I was volunteering at a Buddhist event, helping to manage the crowd as it dispersed. A young woman came over and handed me a business card with her email address on it, asking me to contact her.
The card was interesting because it had a hole where her photo should have been. I playfully held the card up to my eye and joked, "Is this how you're supposed to look at people?" Everyone around me laughed.
Then the woman disappeared. I asked the others, "Where did the woman who gave me the card go?" Some said they didn’t see her, and others said she had left. I remarked, "How am I supposed to contact her now?" Someone pointed out, "Her email is on the card. You can write to her."
I continued managing the crowd, ensuring everyone boarded the return buses smoothly. Eventually, I got on the bus too.
As the bus was moving, a monk stopped it, and a group of what seemed to be evening school students from a girls' high school boarded. The monk got on with them. The girls were holding flowers—some had cosmos, and others had chrysanthemums.
After they boarded, they placed their things at the back of the bus, near my seat. I noticed the flowers and also some small boxes containing what looked like light bulbs.
As the bus moved along, people got off one by one. I saw the items still sitting there and asked if anyone wanted the flowers. A few people raised their hands, so I passed the flowers to them one by one. I decided to keep a red lily for myself.
Then I asked if anyone wanted the light bulbs. They were in small boxes and seemed well protected, so I thought they could still be useful. But not many people seemed interested. One man, who had already taken a flower, raised his hand, so I tossed a light bulb to him. He caught it. I continued asking if anyone wanted a bulb.
Fewer people wanted the bulbs, and I thought to myself, "What a waste! Maybe I should take them with me."
When the bus reached its destination, people got off one by one. I was about to get off too, but I noticed that the bag the monk had brought on, which originally contained flowers and light bulbs, was now full of fish—various types, mostly goldfish, all orange-red in color. I quickly asked if anyone wanted a fish. Thankfully, a few people did, so I tossed the fish to them as well, giving them to whoever asked.
As the crowd thinned, I realized that while I'd given away many of the fish, there were still several long goldfish left in the bag, resembling koi, in both orange-red and black colors. There were also a few small fish, but the large ones were more challenging to handle. I thought, "Only people with aquariums would want these, and not many homes have aquariums nowadays."
I got off the bus carrying the bag and saw my middle school classmate, May.
As I walked, I suddenly found myself on a flooded street. I thought, "Oh no, my clothes and coat are going to get soaked!" I quickly turned back and entered a building.
May was laughing the whole time, probably finding my situation amusing, but I didn’t want my clothes to get wet! I was holding the bag and the flower in my hands. Inside the bag was an orange custard apple-shaped box that looked like the bumps on the head of a Buddha statue, but it also resembled a torch, with a light bulb inside. There was also a bag of fish. To avoid getting my coat wet, I lifted it up high, which made me look quite ridiculous. No wonder May was laughing so much.
1. Ending with Serenity (Peaceful/Spiritual Ending)
As you walk through the flooded street, you suddenly realize that the water is warm and gentle. Instead of being frustrated, you decide to embrace the moment. You wade through the water, feeling a sense of calm wash over you, and your clothes somehow remain dry. May stops laughing and gives you a knowing smile, as if she understands something you don't yet grasp. As you enter the building, the fish in your bag transform into beautiful glowing orbs, floating gently around you. They light your path, guiding you to a quiet room where you can rest, reflecting on the peace you’ve found in accepting life’s flow.
2. Ending with a Revelation (Insightful Ending)
As you struggle to walk through the flooded street, you notice the fish in your bag starting to glow faintly. Each step becomes lighter, and you realize the fish are not just a burden—they are illuminating your path. You take a deep breath and look around, seeing that the flood isn't as deep as it first seemed. May hands you one of the glowing fish, and you suddenly understand: the challenges you're carrying are opportunities for growth. The road ahead clears, and the water recedes, leaving you standing on solid ground. You smile, feeling a sense of clarity and purpose as you continue walking, with the glowing fish lighting your way.
3. Ending with Humor (Playful Ending)
As you walk through the flooded street, you start to laugh along with May. You realize how absurd the situation is—here you are, carrying a bag of fish and flowers through a flood, trying to stay dry. You stop caring about the water, holding the bag high in the air, and start splashing through the flood with joy. The flowers bloom brighter, and the fish begin to swim playfully in the air around you. People from nearby buildings start joining in, laughing and splashing, creating a spontaneous water festival. The street transforms into a vibrant, colorful parade of fish, flowers, and laughter. You and May run ahead, leading the parade, completely immersed in the fun.
Your dream is rich in symbolism, with various elements reflecting aspects of your inner thoughts, emotions, and possibly your waking life experiences. Here's an interpretation of the different components:
1. Volunteering at a Buddhist Event
Volunteering at a spiritual or religious event suggests a search for purpose, meaning, or guidance in life. The Buddhist context indicates a desire for peace, balance, or wisdom, or it may reflect the need to be of service to others, which aligns with Buddhist values of compassion and mindfulness.
2. The Woman and the Business Card with a Hole
The woman giving you the business card with a missing photo might represent someone or something that feels incomplete or unclear in your life. The hole in the card, where her picture should be, could symbolize an elusive identity, a mystery, or missing information about a situation or person. The playful way you looked through the hole suggests that you're trying to find a humorous or creative way to understand things that seem missing or uncertain.
3. The Flowers and Light Bulbs on the Bus
The flowers may symbolize beauty, growth, and transience, while the light bulbs likely represent ideas, inspiration, or knowledge. The act of handing them out could mean you're willing to share your insights and creativity with others but are uncertain about whether they are valued (not many people wanted the light bulbs). Keeping a red lily for yourself might symbolize that you're holding on to something meaningful, like a personal passion or cherished thought.
4. The Monk, Students, and Different Flowers
The monk and the students suggest a learning process or a spiritual journey you are undergoing. The different flowers (cosmos and chrysanthemums) could represent different aspects of life, such as peace and death (as chrysanthemums are often associated with funerals). This might indicate you’re going through phases of personal transformation, learning to accept life's cycles.
5. The Fish and Their Transformation
Fish in dreams often symbolize abundance, emotions, or subconscious thoughts. The fact that the flowers and light bulbs turned into fish might indicate that something that began as ideas or gifts has evolved into something more complex or emotional. The different kinds of fish, especially the larger koi-like fish, suggest that certain emotions or situations are difficult to manage, and you feel responsible for them but unsure how to handle them.
6. The Flooded Street and Wet Clothes
Walking on a flooded street and worrying about getting wet could reflect being overwhelmed by emotions or situations in your life. The flood represents something you feel is beyond your control, and your concern about keeping your clothes dry may symbolize a desire to maintain dignity or composure despite challenges. May's laughter may show that part of you finds this inner struggle amusing or that others see you as taking things too seriously.
7. May and the Orange Custard Apple-Shaped Box
May's laughter could symbolize a playful, nostalgic part of you, or it may represent someone from your past who offers a different perspective on your current situation. The orange custard apple-shaped box, resembling both the Buddha’s head and a torch, suggests enlightenment or guidance but also something precious that needs protection (the light bulbs). Carrying these items, even when feeling burdened, shows you’re holding onto hope or knowledge that you deem important, despite feeling out of place or overwhelmed.
Overall Dream Themes
Search for Meaning: The dream reflects a desire for spiritual or personal growth, symbolized by the Buddhist context and interactions with the monk.
Transformation: Objects changing from flowers to fish and the challenge of distributing them suggests a transformation in how you manage emotional or practical responsibilities.
Overwhelm and Adaptation: The flood and your attempts to stay dry point to feeling emotionally overwhelmed, but you’re trying to keep control or adapt to the situation with humor.
Balance Between Humor and Responsibility: Despite the weight of your duties and emotions, there’s a lighthearted aspect (seen in your interactions with May and the business card), suggesting you’re trying to maintain balance between seriousness and playfulness.
Your dream could be encouraging you to explore ways to handle the different responsibilities or emotions you're managing, to accept life’s transitions, and to find humor in the process of figuring it all out.
