I had a dream where I went to find a tour guide. It seemed like I was at Sun Moon Lake filming indigenous people performing a harvest dance. Two Indian men were also filming, and when they saw me placing my camera on a stone pillar by the railing, they copied my method.
We introduced ourselves, and they commented that my equipment looked professional. I explained that I specialize in filming temple events.
They asked about the significance of the dance performance, and I told them it was a harvest dance, a rare sight, and suggested they film it as it’s great footage. I mentioned that there are performances twice a week, and that the morning and afternoon dances are different, both worth capturing because they’re excellent material.
I also mentioned that tomorrow, on my way back, I would be with a tour group, and we were scheduled to visit another statue for a religious ceremony where people can pray. They both eagerly said they would join us tomorrow.
The next day, I joined the group, and the guide took us to the statue for a worship ritual. The guide handed each of us a large bundle of incense, saying that we could each speak to the Bodhisattva for 5 minutes. He lit our incense, and we lined up, ready to talk to the Bodhisattva.
Suddenly, both ends of my incense bundle started burning rapidly. I thought, “Wow! Such strong incense—it must be a good sign, right?” But the person in front of me was taking their time talking to the Bodhisattva, and my incense was burning so fast that I could barely hold it.
There were originally other women standing beside me, but perhaps because my incense was burning so vigorously, the other tourists began to move away. I was struggling to hold onto the incense, but it was becoming impossible.
I overheard some people whispering, saying that my incense might burn out before I even reached the Bodhisattva, and then my wish wouldn’t count. I started to feel anxious, trying desperately to hold onto the incense.
Finally, it was my turn. I told the tour guide, “Guide, my incense is almost burned out, with only this small base left. Does that still count for making a wish?” The guide replied, “Of course! You’ve already shown your sincerity.”
He told me to throw the small, disc-like base of the incense into the trash bag and said, “You can now go and make your wish to the Bodhisattva.”
As I walked towards the Bodhisattva, I wondered, “What should I wish for?” I had so many wishes and didn’t want to waste this opportunity.
When I stood before the Bodhisattva, I said, “I wish for my family’s health and safety, for my daughter’s studies and development to go well. I hope my husband and I can improve our family’s prosperity, and that my mom and stepfather stay healthy. I also wish to stop worrying and live a peaceful, happy life. I hope my abilities can be recognized and utilized, so I can earn money, support my family, and pay off debts. These are my thoughts and wishes.”
1. Peaceful Realization:
As you approach the Bodhisattva, you pause for a moment, overwhelmed by the weight of your wishes. Instead of speaking, a sense of calm washes over you. The Bodhisattva smiles warmly without words, and you suddenly feel that all your worries have already been heard. You realize that peace and happiness are within you, waiting to be embraced. You leave the shrine, feeling lighter, knowing that everything will unfold as it should.
2. Empowerment and Transformation:
As your incense burns down to the base, you feel a surge of energy from within. The guide looks at you, but before he can speak, the Bodhisattva gestures for you to come forward. You don’t need to utter a single wish. Instead, the Bodhisattva touches your forehead gently, and you feel an immense strength fill your body. You suddenly know that you have the power to achieve your goals and bring prosperity to your family. You leave the shrine, empowered and ready to face the challenges ahead.
3. Unexpected Twist:
Just as you're about to speak your wish, the Bodhisattva raises a hand and points to the sky. You look up, and suddenly, the sky opens into a brilliant golden light. You are lifted off the ground and transported to a serene, otherworldly place filled with calm waters and lush green mountains. Here, you're told that all your wishes have already been granted. You are simply asked to trust the process. With that, you return to the shrine, feeling reassured and no longer burdened by fear or worry.
4. Symbolic Gesture:
As your incense burns out, the guide suddenly offers you a fresh bundle. "Sometimes we get a second chance," he says. You take the new incense and light it with care, this time feeling no rush. As you stand before the Bodhisattva, you make your wishes with confidence. The incense burns slowly and steadily, symbolizing the slow but sure progress you’ll make toward fulfilling your dreams. You walk away with a renewed sense of patience and faith in your journey.
5. Miraculous Intervention:
As your incense burns out completely, you begin to worry that your wish won’t count. But just before the last bit turns to ash, the Bodhisattva suddenly steps down from the pedestal and gently takes the incense from your hands. She blows on it, and the flames reignite. Smiling, she hands it back to you, and you realize that you’ve been given a second chance. With renewed hope, you make your wish, feeling blessed and certain that it will come true.
6. Message of Gratitude:
As you approach the Bodhisattva, you realize that instead of making a wish, you feel compelled to express gratitude. You thank the Bodhisattva for the blessings you already have—your family's health, your daughter's progress, and your own strength. As you finish speaking, you notice the incense has stopped burning entirely, yet the smoke lingers in the air, forming a beautiful, intricate pattern. You leave the shrine, knowing that being thankful for the present is as important as wishing for the future.
Each of these endings carries a different message, from empowerment and calm to gratitude and faith. Depending on what resonates most with you, any of these alternative endings could represent different ways to interpret the dream’s underlying emotions and concerns.
This dream could reflect several themes related to your life, emotions, and aspirations. Here’s an interpretation:
Seeking Guidance and Direction (Tour Guide & Filming):
The dream starts with you looking for a tour guide, which suggests you may be seeking guidance, clarity, or direction in your life. Filming the indigenous dance could symbolize the desire to document, capture, or preserve something meaningful, possibly related to your heritage, values, or personal goals.
Connection and Learning (Meeting the Indian Tourists):
The two Indian tourists copying your filming technique might indicate a desire for connection and collaboration. They admire your professionalism, which may reflect your wish for others to recognize your skills and talents. Their interest in the meaning behind the dance may symbolize your own desire to find deeper significance in the things you do.
Concerns About Time and Opportunity (Burning Incense):
The fast-burning incense bundle could represent feelings of urgency or anxiety about time running out—whether it’s in achieving goals, fulfilling responsibilities, or making the most of opportunities. You might feel like you are under pressure, trying to balance multiple aspects of your life (family, work, finances), and there’s a fear that you won't have enough time to accomplish everything.
Worrying About Expectations (People Moving Away):
When the tourists moved away as your incense burned intensely, this could reflect feelings of being overwhelmed, where your passion or intensity in pursuing your goals may make others uncomfortable or cause you to feel isolated. It may also signify how you feel about the reactions of others to your efforts and dedication.
Reassurance and Sincerity (Guide’s Response):
The guide’s reassurance that your wish still counts even though your incense has burned down suggests that you may be worried about not doing things "perfectly" or not fulfilling all obligations, but the dream reminds you that sincerity matters more than perfection. It highlights the importance of intention over outward actions.
Family and Personal Aspirations (Making a Wish):
The wishes you make before the Bodhisattva touch on key areas of your life: health and happiness for your family, success for your daughter, financial stability, and inner peace for yourself. This reflects your deep concerns and hopes for balance between family, work, and self-fulfillment. You wish for recognition of your abilities, suggesting you may feel underappreciated in certain areas of life, yet you seek growth and prosperity for your family.
Letting Go of Worry (Incense Burning Fast):
The image of the incense burning quickly could also symbolize the need to let go of unnecessary worries or pressures. The dream shows you already have what it takes—your sincerity and intentions are recognized, even if circumstances aren’t perfect.
Overall Interpretation:
This dream seems to reflect feelings of striving for balance, recognition, and fulfillment in both personal and professional areas of your life. It suggests you're navigating responsibilities and anxieties, but at the same time, you seek reassurance that your efforts and intentions are enough. The dream encourages you to trust in your sincerity and to focus on what truly matters—your family’s well-being, your personal growth, and inner peace.
