I dreamed that I was in a temporary office, set up because the company was planning to close down but still had some final matters to take care of. The office didn’t even have desks or chairs, so I, along with a colleague, went to a second-hand store or perhaps a rundown place to pick up some furniture.
There were quite a few office chairs there. I noticed some nice armchairs that I thought would be suitable for the supervisors. My plan was to have regular employees use armless chairs and reserve the armchairs for the supervisors.
Later, my colleague pointed out that armchairs often have arms that are too high to slide under desks, making them impractical for the supervisors. I thought this made sense, so we decided to choose only armless chairs. However, we needed to explain this to the supervisors since some of them felt that armchairs were more fitting for their status.
Then, I walked past the desk of a recently promoted supervisor, who complained to me about why some people were allowed to have armchairs. He insisted on showing me something, which I didn't quite understand at first. When I followed him, I saw that the supervisor he was referring to was actually a cartoon character.
This supervisor introduced herself as "Watermelon Sister." She looked quite funny—her head was round and plump, resembling a watermelon, and even her shoes had a round watermelon design. Of course, the soles were flat so she could walk! Her whole look was adorable.
Because Watermelon Sister wore her watermelon shoes, her legs looked elongated, making her appear quite tall. To accommodate her and her shoes, her desk had to be raised. With the higher desk, there was more space underneath, so she could use an armchair that fit beneath the desk.
Overall, I found Watermelon Sister's look to be so cute! But in my dream, she was in black and white, not a colorful version.
Then, I noticed the office had filled with many more round, cartoonish characters. For some reason, I started peeling off their outer skins, revealing the fruit flesh inside. Even after peeling, they stayed round but just got a bit smaller.
This felt like a scene out of a comic book—I kept peeling off that outer layer from all these characters.
I remembered that before I took my colleague to choose the desks and chairs, I had been chatting with another coworker in the office while peeling the skin off my feet. As I peeled, the pieces got larger and larger. I thought to myself, "How am I so good at peeling skin? I can even peel off such a large piece!" I even reassured myself, "Peeling off so much skin won't affect my height..."
1. Watermelon Sister's Secret:
As I continued peeling the skins off the cartoonish characters, Watermelon Sister suddenly stopped me. She revealed that beneath her watermelon skin was a hidden treasure—inside her round, cheerful exterior was a glowing orb, a core of pure light. She explained that each character hid something valuable inside, but the process of revealing it had to be done gently and with care. She guided me through a new way of peeling, turning the act into a delicate and mindful ritual. The office gradually transformed from a bleak, black-and-white space into a vibrant, colorful world as each character’s true essence came to light.
2. The Office's Sudden Revival:
As I was peeling away the skins of the characters, a strange energy swept through the office. The temporary space began to rebuild itself—desks and chairs materialized out of thin air, and the atmosphere shifted from a place of transition to a bustling hub of creativity. Watermelon Sister’s desk sprouted vines and leaves, turning into a living, breathing workstation, while the armless chairs became cushioned with soft, bright fabrics. My colleague and I marveled as the once-empty space transformed into a dream-like office full of possibilities. We decided that instead of closing down, the company would start a new venture, blending the playful with the professional.
3. Uncovering a Portal:
After peeling the last layer from a character, I noticed a shimmering portal had opened up beneath their feet. Watermelon Sister, now glowing faintly in grayscale, urged me to step inside. I hesitated but eventually followed her through the swirling vortex. On the other side, we found ourselves in a new world—a hybrid between a garden and a bustling office, where each desk was a blooming flower, and the supervisors were wise creatures who took care of this enchanted realm. Watermelon Sister explained that this was where ideas and dreams were born before they took shape in the real world, and I had been invited to help shape the dreams of others.
4. The Great Debate:
As I peeled more skins, I overheard a heated debate between Watermelon Sister and the other cartoonish supervisors. They argued about who deserved to keep their skins, revealing that each outer shell represented a part of their identity or power. Watermelon Sister defended her right to retain her watermelon shape, insisting it made her approachable and relatable. I realized that peeling away their skins wasn’t what they truly wanted; instead, they needed someone to help them integrate their quirky outer layers with their inner selves. I decided to create a compromise: each character could choose when to shed their skin and when to keep it, embracing their multifaceted nature. The office became a space where everyone felt more comfortable with who they were, inside and out.
5. The Dream Within a Dream:
Just as I finished peeling the last character, I suddenly found myself back in the original office, my hands empty. It was as if none of it had happened. Watermelon Sister, now a regular human colleague, approached me and asked why I seemed so distracted. I hesitated, wondering if I should tell her about the strange dream I just experienced. Instead, I reached into my pocket and found a small, round watermelon seed. Smiling, I handed it to her without a word. She took it with a knowing nod, and we both returned to our desks. I looked around and noticed that while the office was still temporary, it now felt more alive—each desk, each chair had a story behind it, as if my dream had left a subtle mark on reality.
6. The Melting of Boundaries:
After peeling all the characters, including Watermelon Sister, I noticed that the office walls had dissolved into mist, leaving us in a vast open field under a cloudy sky. Watermelon Sister, now without her watermelon form, laughed as the mist turned into rain, washing away the temporary desks and chairs. She looked at me and said, “The old roles and spaces were just skins too.” Together, we stood in the open space, where new possibilities could grow. The rain washed over me, making me feel lighter, as if I too had shed something I no longer needed. Instead of a structured office, I envisioned a community garden, where we could plant whatever seeds we wanted for the future.
Each of these endings offers a different mood and interpretation—some leaning into fantasy and surrealism, while others focus on self-discovery or the transformation of the space.
This dream is rich in symbolism, blending elements of change, role adjustments, and personal reflection. Here's a possible interpretation of its key themes and images:
1. Temporary Office & Company Closure:
The temporary office could symbolize a transitional period in your life, possibly related to work, personal identity, or a significant shift in your surroundings. The company planning to close but still having unfinished business might indicate that you're going through a phase where you're trying to tie up loose ends or resolve lingering issues before moving on to something new.
2. Furniture Scavenging:
Seeking out desks and chairs in a second-hand or rundown place suggests a resourceful approach to dealing with a lack of stability or structure in your current situation. This act of finding what you need from discarded or old places could represent a sense of resilience or making the best of challenging circumstances.
3. Choosing Armchairs for Supervisors:
Your decision to differentiate between armchairs for supervisors and armless chairs for others reflects thoughts about hierarchy, authority, and status. It might suggest that you're considering the roles and positions of others around you and how they perceive their roles or how you perceive yours.
The insight from your colleague about armchairs being impractical could represent a realization that status symbols don’t always lead to practical outcomes. It might be pointing to a deeper understanding that form should follow function, and what appears suitable may not always be the best solution in practice.
4. Watermelon Sister as a Supervisor:
The appearance of "Watermelon Sister" is highly whimsical and represents a mix of childlike imagination and the seriousness of a leadership role. As a cartoon character with a round watermelon head and shoes, she might symbolize a humorous or lighthearted take on the typical rigidity or formality of leadership roles.
Her desk being raised to accommodate her could indicate a need to adjust environments or expectations to suit the unique aspects of certain people or situations. The fact that she was in black and white might suggest that, despite her playful appearance, the situation is more serious or lacks the vibrancy you might expect.
5. Peeling Off Skins:
Peeling the outer skins of the cartoonish characters to reveal the fruit inside could represent a desire to strip away superficial layers to reveal true selves or essence. It might reflect a process of discovering authenticity, both in yourself and in those around you.
This peeling process might also symbolize vulnerability and the act of getting to the core of issues, stripping away pretense or layers of protection to reveal what lies beneath.
6. Peeling Skin from Feet:
The scene where you peel skin off your feet, noting how large the pieces are, can be seen as a metaphor for shedding old layers of yourself—letting go of past aspects or habits. The emphasis on it not affecting your height could symbolize a reassurance that this process of change won't alter your core self-worth or stature, even if it feels drastic.
Overall Interpretation:
This dream seems to revolve around the theme of change and adaptation. It suggests a transition in your life where you are reassessing roles, adapting to new realities, and discarding old layers to find what is essential. It mixes playful and serious tones, indicating that while you are adapting to changes, you’re also trying to maintain a sense of humor or lightness about the process. The dream might also hint at the importance of embracing your unique approach and recognizing that appearances (like the formality of an armchair or the look of Watermelon Sister) aren't always what they seem.
Ultimately, the dream seems to encourage embracing the transitions with flexibility and humor while focusing on what truly matters beneath the surface.
