《The Lonely Journey of a Married Couple》
Men marry and women wed, and the six children each have their own families. In the end, only Ajun and Ahua are left in this house.
Ahua goes through her days like she's on a forced march, carrying heavy bags and sitting down panting. Day after day, for her whole life, she’s left with nothing but loneliness. Ajun and Ahua look at each other, having to handle three meals a day. Ahua's life now seems to revolve solely around Ajun's concern for her.
As the years go by, their physical strength and patience wear thin. The more Ahua thinks about it, the more frustrated she becomes, grumbling constantly, as if this is what gives her life meaning.
Ajun retired at 72. After decades of tension with Ahua, their empty emotional world has silently consumed their time. Over the years, their grievances have worn down, leaving them alone together.
Ahua finds joy in feeding stray cats and gardening. Meanwhile, Ajun has become accustomed to keeping an eye on Ahua's every move, worried about potential disasters.
It's hard to tell who is living in whose world. They've endured together for a lifetime, but there comes a day when one must let go.
Old age is a clear sign of declining health, especially for those who have lived under constant stress. Once they relax, illnesses flood in. Ajun suffers from bladder cancer, anxiety, and Parkinson’s disease, among other ailments. The pillar of the children’s lives is finally crumbling.
Ajun is in and out of the hospital, always worrying about Ahua's daily life, fearing what will happen to her if he goes first. He can never escape his worries.
Everyone has their destiny, and wealth is in the hands of fate. Ahua has never had a serious illness, only minor ailments. Her blank health insurance card is the best proof. Nature always finds a way for life to survive. Ahua lives by Ajun's side with nothing but pride and stubborn tenacity. If they were something in a past life, they might have been an officer and a bandit, endlessly entangled.
At 74, Ahua began to swell all over her body. Ajun noticed something was wrong and asked their children to take her to the hospital. The doctor decided she needed to be transferred to a larger hospital. This was Ahua’s first time facing hospitalization, and no one realized how critical her condition was.
She was diagnosed with a myocardial infarction and needed to be hospitalized. Her ragged clothing led the nurses and doctors to suspect abuse and they called the police because no one could approach her. Under restraint, they finally managed to remove her tightly wrapped clothes, revealing the world Ahua had been living in.
